We visited Sissinghurst garden, which was planned by Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson in the 1930’s. The most original part of her garden is The White garden. As the name indicates most plants that blossom are white with mainly silver foliage and that is what make up this part. A cultivar of a white Pulmonaria, which has been given the name ‘Sissinghurst White’, white lavender, magnolia, clematis and a white Wisteria, with a lovely fragrance. There were also different species of old roses, but none of them blossomed yet and many more.
The garden design concisted of well cut lawn, flower beds with perennials and shrubs. The part of the garden, which Sissinghurst is most known for, is the rose garden and in it you can find old-fashioned rose plants and a circle made up of cut Taxus. Another part are the meadows with apple trees, a grove with Corylus shrubs and grove perennials, for example Trillium. The tower was built in the 15th century and Vita lived in it, while her husband lived in the cottage house.
It’s one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe so be sure to visit it. It’s in Kent county in the Southeast of England.
